Co-op Month: Keeping Greenbelt Great

Greenbelt Homes, Inc. (GHI) is celebrating National Co-op Month this October, which recognizes the many ways co-ops are committed to strengthening the local communities they serve.

What is a cooperative?

A co-op is a business that is owned and controlled by its members. GHI exists to provide you a home – not to make a profit.

Why are cooperatives different?

Seven cooperative principles set us apart from other businesses:

  • Open membership;
  • Member control;
  • Member economic participation;
  • Autonomy and independence;
  • Education, training, and information;
  • Cooperation among cooperatives; and
  • Concern for community.

In addition to providing a home, GHI focuses on making a difference in the community through various committee and task force activities. Keep an eye out for the calendar events to get involved in your cooperative community.
