Difficulty Level: Average      Time Required: 10 minutes

Here's How:

    For frame homes
  1. Find and turn off the outside water cut off valve located near the main water valves usually located under the kitchen sink.
  2. Open both the service side and garden side hose bib faucets to allow the water in the pipes to drain.
    For brick and block homes
  1. Brick and block homes originally had outside faucets on the gardenside only. These are turned off in the crawl space and drained at the hose bibb. Call Maintenance to have the valve turned off in the crawl space.
  2. Most brick and block homes have outside faucets connected under the kitchen sink area. Locate and turn off the cut off valve then open the outside faucet to drain any water that may freeze and cause damage to the hose bibb or piping.

Tips:

  1. If you have difficulties or cannot locate valves or hose bibs please call the Maintenance Department for assistance 301-474-6011.
