Accessibility Statement

Greenbelt Homes, Inc. (GHI) is committed to making its website accessible to the widest possible audience, including individuals with disabilities. Ensuring the web accessibility of a site is an industry standard these days. Efforts toward web accessibility benefit all users, but GHI has a specific commitment to older users and users with disabilities because of our unique placement in the “inclusive community” of Greenbelt, Maryland.

What is web accessibility?

To be accessible, this website tries to be as easy to use and understand for as many visitors as possible. Accessibility issues may include:

  • The ability to see, hear, move or process some types of information;
  • The ability to use a keyboard or mouse; and
  • Use of a text-only screen, a small screen (handheld computers and wireless telephones) or a slow Internet connection.

Making a site usable for all visitors includes making sure it is usable by people with disabilities. Disabilities that can affect web site use include:

  • Color blindness: Lack of color contrast between click options, or when displaying links, can make choices on a website harder than they need to be.
  • Motor skills deficiencies: If clickable regions are too small or too close together, making a choice or seeing options can be difficult, and users can become frustrated. This includes having fields to fill in that are too small.
  • Hearing impairments: Any audio content on this site will be presented with a transcripts.
  • Visual impairments: Navigation on this site must be keyboard-enabled, so that a user does not have to rely on a mouse to use our site. Content must be able to be read aloud by assistive technology devices such as screenreaders. Video content and pictures require transcripts or descriptive captions.

 What other content on this site might present barriers to web accessibility?

  • Portable Document Formats (PDFs): Many of the documents on this site are in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). We strive to ensure, but cannot guarantee, the accessibility of PDF documents created by third parties and posted on the GHI website. Publications in PDF can only be viewed and printed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader, version 3.0 or higher. Download Acrobat Reader.
